Baked Brie in Puff Pastry

This baked Brie recipe is simple to make with a wheel of brie cheese wrapped in golden puff pastry. It's so good served hot out of the oven and won't last long on your holiday table! Serve this gooey cheesy appetizer with your favorite crackers or sliced crusty bread on the side.

Ingredients:

1 round of Brie cheese (about 8 oz)
1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
2 tbsp of apricot or fig jam (optional for added sweetness)
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tbsp of honey (optional for drizzling)
Fresh herbs for garnish (optional, such as rosemary or thyme)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet. If it’s not already large enough, roll it slightly to ensure it can fully encase the Brie cheese.
  3. Add jam (optional): Spread a thin layer of apricot or fig jam in the center of the puff pastry, where the Brie will sit. This adds sweetness and depth to the flavor, but it’s optional based on your taste.
  4. Place the Brie: Place the Brie cheese in the center of the puff pastry. If you like, you can remove the rind, but it’s not necessary as the rind softens and is edible after baking.
  5. Wrap the Brie: Fold the corners of the puff pastry over the Brie, covering it completely. Pinch the edges to seal the pastry securely.
  6. Prepare the egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tbsp of water to create an egg wash. Brush the puff pastry with the egg wash to give it a golden, shiny finish when baked.
  7. Bake: Place the wrapped Brie on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  8. Serve: Once out of the oven, let the Brie rest for a few minutes before cutting. Serve with crackers, sliced baguette, or fresh fruit.
  9. Optional drizzle: Before serving, drizzle a bit of honey over the top for extra sweetness and garnish with fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme for a festive touch.

Tips:

  • You can also experiment with different jams or chutneys like raspberry, cranberry, or even caramelized onions.
  • For a savory variation, sprinkle some crushed nuts (like pecans or walnuts) inside the pastry along with the Brie.

Enjoy your Baked Brie in Puff Pastry – it's a perfect appetizer for parties, holiday gatherings, or a special treat!
